Hot dogs, baseball, apple pie. These things help define our country and in many ways ourselves. To me, there's much more to the U.S.A. than those icons. We as 4x4 nuts are in a subset of American culture and hold more things dear to our heart. In fact, I can't even begin to take a road trip without thinking of all the flatfenders and cool 4x4s I'll find along the way.
Such was the case in my recent forays into the heart of the Midwest: Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. It was Ultimate Adventure prerun time, and after 4,000 some miles of driving on freeways, byways, and dirt tracks, I have a route set that's sure to challenge all of the participants.
But along the way I uncovered and discovered places and things that shout Americana, and of course I had to share them with our readers.
