Serious Protection For Solid-Axle GM Trucks

Photography by Cole Quinnell, David Kennedy

We love our Blazer, and we love to wheel it. Like all fullsize owners, we think our truck will go anywhere and do anything, but sometimes we're afraid it'll get destroyed following our Jeep buddies. To keep that from happening, we've been on the lookout for a full protection bumper that would handle a winch, protect our fenders, and not hurt our approach angle.

The problem was that nobody seemed to make one. That is until we learned that the Off Road Design gang was developing one based on the front bumper it competed with in Faux Wheeler's Top Truck Challenge. When we saw its 2-inch, 0.120-wall DOM tube construction, we knew we'd found our solution. To customize ORD's bumper for our '82 Blazer we added the optional off-road light and blinker mounts.

For now, ORD is building the bumper for'81-'91 solid-axle GM trucks, but plans are in the works to adapt the design to the '73-'80 trucks too. If you're in the Glenwood Springs, Colorado, area, you can pick yours up like we did. If not, the bumper can be shipped on a pallet to your door--ready for paint.
