The Tractor
What do you get when you mix a '46 CJ2A frame with all the leftover parts from years of wrenching and wheeling magazine project vehicles? You get a tractor, or at least that's what Jimmy Nylund calls this wheeling wonder. Jimmy is semiretired from Four Wheeler magazine where he's been writing since before most of the 4-Wheel & Off-Road staff was out of high school. The tractor has the engine from a DJ3A that smokes like crazy (as any tractor should), a T90 three-speed and model 18 transfer case, a NOS Dana 30 front axle with 11-inch drums, and a retired, bent Dana 44 rear axle with a Detroit and disc brakes. Believe it or not, this machine does exceed the $1,500 limit if you were trying to build it from scratch, but when you're like Jimmy, things like the mismatched 28x8.50-14 swampers and 31x12.50-15 Boggers just seem to end up coming together just fine.
