Randy Ellis made a name for himself by building some amazingly capable rockcrawlers, so it surprised us when he sold all his high-end toys and started building a "Retro-Wheeler." His goal was to build a Jeep like what he drove back in high school, and returning to a time before all his rides had coilover shocks and trick tube work. Something that put the challenge back in his driving style and not in his fabrication style. The result is a '76 CJ-5 with a 304, T150 tranny, and Dana 20 case. The Dana 30 front and 44 rear axles, both with open diffs, are slung under the springs and spin 33-inch ProComp ATs. Total investment: $1,462. View Related Article
