New from Bestop are B-Wear clothes, designed for hitting the trail under every type of sky. Pictured here are the denim jacket (right) and the charcoal fleece pullover (left), which has a high collar and thick Polartec material that left our skin fairly windproof. If you prefer your pullovers to fit loosely, order a size larger than you'd normally.

Bestop-it's already known for its soft tops and bikini tops for Jeeps, Suzukis, and Toyotas, as well as for hardtops, storage modules, and seats and seat covers. But the only way to get a handle on how to build and improve all those parts is for the company to trail-test each one-that means doing it when it's hailing small puppies, snowing Pop Tart-sized flakes, or colder than a refrigerator in winter. The aftermarket manufacturer also knows you're out there putting each of its products to work in the same conditions, and now it has two words for you: fleece and wool.

The Bestop crew realized if you're game enough to use its stuff on your truck, you're probably up for trusting that quality on your person. So presto-a rugged line of outdoor gear is now offered. New for 1999 is B-Wear, which includes a fleece pullover, a denim jacket, and a sweatshirt. For non-nippy weather, there's a button-down shirt,T-shirts, a polo, and, of course, a baseball cap. All clothing is available for both gents and gals, and you can order it from the Web site or from the address and phone listed in the story.

  • Bestop's B-Wear includes the token T-shirts, but the "B"-logo'd version (left) comes close to our favorite shade of all time, olive drab (even though it's technically called moss green). There's also a white "Attitude" T with the company's mascot, Buster Axel, on the back, while other flashy style comes via a gray polo shirt and the weathered-twill button-down, which also feature the "B" (both on the right). The twill cap has a stonewashed black bill, a khaki head covering, and nice adjustability, as well as that new-for-'99 Bestop signature.

  • Everybody needs a sweatshirt, right?! This one from Bestop features a super-soft interior and a navy exterior. If you don't like wearing advertising for a company, you'll be pleased as punch to see that the Bestop logo is located subtly on the chest. It comes in sizes small to XXXL.

  • OK, you might be wondering how denim can keep you warm. We were too, so you can imagine our elation to discover this Indian-blanket-patterned wool vest that snaps inside, which means you can pull it out if you're too warm, or wear it on its own to be sharply dressed outdoors. The jacket also features a brown leather collar, side pockets, chest pockets that you can button closed, wide interior pockets, and a surprisingly low price of about 100 bucks.
