Rocky Mountain International Harvester Rendezvous - Binder Bash
IH Iron Tackles The Iron Chest Trail
Photography by Ed Fortson
The 6th Annual Rocky Mountain International Harvester Rendezvous in Fairplay, Colorado, was a real bash for Binders in every sense. It was a great party but these IH jocks didn't just sit around and chew the fat. Far from it. In fact, the photos in this article are from just one of a bunch of awesome Rocky Mountain trail rides organized for the event.
The Binder Bulletin's editor, Bill Thebert, led the seven-Scout charge on the Iron Chest trail. It goes up what used to be a road to the abandoned Iron Chest Mine. It's way above timberline on a rocky peak near St. Elmo and Buena Vista, Colorado. The trail is only 211/42 miles long, but the first half mile is a rugged boulder-filled sluice with no bypass. Lifts, lockers, boulder-crawling experience, and rock-hard nerves are minimum requirements-and that's in good, dry weather. Of course, it rained all day for our adventure and photo shoot. That made the 'wheeling feel like driving on a sea of oiled basketballs.
Keep an eye on www.binderbulletin .org on the Internet for information about next year's Rendezvous.
