It's kinda funny how much importance is put on professional motorsports and how some folks think it's more worthwhile than good ol' trail wheeling. Don't get us wrong, we love checkin' out Trophy Trucks and super lightweight rockcrawlers, not to mention the race-fuel-powered mud machines, but whenever we get to go wheeling with folks, we drop all other priorities. In fact, on a recent trip to Virginia, we realized that there is a new circuit out there that anyone can join and you don't need sponsor stickers, a tractor-trailer tow rig, or matching race suits.
The Poor Boys 4-Wheel Drive club based around Richmond and Fredericksburg, Virginia, have named it the Professional Trail Riders (PTR) circuit, and it's the best darn motorsport in our view. Where else can you load your cooler in your trail rig, go hang with your buddies, and talk trash and laugh at each other while hiding from the missus' Honey-do list? We were at a new 300-acre off-road park in Crozet, Virginia, and it was pretty cool how after a day of awesome wheeling every attendee went home with First Place trophies, some looking like busted driveshafts and body dings, others were new tires with a day's worth of trail use worn off them. No need to send in your annual dues to join the PTR; just lock the hubs, drop it in low range, and you're a member.
