Memorial Day At Diamonds Mudbog

It's not all tractor tires and giant lifts. This little truck had plenty of scoot under the hood and zoomie exhaust to prove it. Check out the PVC plumbing snorkel.

  • The triple/single rollbar is a bit '80s, but anything goes when you're just out mud whumpin' and looking for a good time, so don't knock it.

  • When you have a deep hole you need a big tow rig. This TimberJack logging tractor wasn't scared to pull rigs from even the deepest holes.

  • Taking an open-top Jeep to a mud bog requires a no-worries attitude. This guy was having fun all day and was still smiling as he left the mud pit that evening.

  • You eyes aren't deceiving you. That is a boat, with life jackets, water skis, and police lights for good measure. It just happens to be on a '78 F-150 frame with 37-inch Boggers and a 4-inch Rancho suspension

  • Alongside the pit there are some small hills to play on; some even make for good jumps. The property also has primitive camping, and many wheelers stay overnight for two days of dirty fun.

  • Devon Wolf was representing the General in the mud and making a good show of it. His '65 Chevy was outfitted with 1-ton bits from five different trucks and 44-inch Ground Hawgs to be a daily driver and mud truck in one.

  • Get your old Ford, throw it up on 12-inchers, weld the rear dif, and bolt on some 44-inch Swampers, and you're ready to rumble. Richard Bagrave was shifting gears and having fun with under $3,000 worth of truck.

  • Alan L. Konz Jr. came down from New York to test out his fresh new Wrangler buildup. With four years of work stuffing a mostly Ford powertrain into a custom frame under a Jeep, you could see why he was finally ready to let 'er rip in the mud.

  • There was the main mud hole, which wasn't too deep and had room for all the 35-inch-plus-tired trucks, and then there was the deep hole where the big-tractor-tired trucks went to play. These guys loaded their party Wagoneer and headed for the deep hole. They came back on the end of a strap.

  • Whether they were coming or going, the deepest part of the hole could swallow big trucks and make tractor tires seem small. Shawn Wondoloski's big yellow Dodge was making a return trip, while Bruce Wyland Jr.'s big red F-250 was spinning 2 1/2-ton axles with a stock 351 V-8 headed for dryer ground.

  • Somehow Alan Williams convinced this nice young lady that going for a ride in his Suzuki Samurai-turned-tube buggy was going to be just fine. Having owned it for 12 years Alan found that parts would rust and fall off, so he just tossed the body and made his own. Too bad his 33-inch-tall tires couldn't reach the bottom of the big pit.

  • Adam Gates owns Adam's Off Road in New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, but also lives on a farm. Apparently he doesn't get enough off road driving with his tractors, so he bolted some 65-inch BFGoodrich Special Service R2 tractor tires to his Bronco. And to match those tires he found some 7-ton (yes, 7) axles with factory selectable lockers to help spin them.

  • The Wynn family of TA Wynn trucking fame collected parts and put together this clean, mean, mudding machine. Starting with a '79 Ford F-150, the brothers and father worked together to stuff in a healthy 466 engine, dual transfer cases, Rockwell axles, and 26x46 Soft Trac terra tires.

  • Looking for that special something for the woman who has everything? How about turning her minivan into a mud-bashing mom-mobile? Fred Veth put GM power and Jeep M715 axles under this $650 4x4 and was giving rides to kids and grownups alike.

  • Though every make and model of 4x4 was on hand, this event was definitely held in Ford Country. Robert Swank's '77 crew cab F-350 wasn't scared to devour the deepest part of the pit or any GM trucks in its way. Ouverson Engineering 47-spline axleshafts help spin 66-inch Goodyears on the ends of the Rockwell axles.
