We’re vultures. If you see us you should run. Cameramen only hang out where there’s a chance of carnage. We set up above and wait for disaster to befall those below. Then we pounce with flashbulbs blazing. So why is it whenever we unsheathe our lenses people come out of the woodwork and get nutty? Thankfully, it’s a sick world and you don’t mind being the fodder for our lenses.

The Easter Jeep Safari, sponsored by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers and the Moab Chamber of Commerce, has been hosted the week before Easter for the last 33 years. The 34th Safari was no exception. Moab offers some of the gnarliest ’wheeling around. Rollovers are commonplace. Breakage is expected. Body damage is laughed at. And we’re there salivating at all of it.

Although Moab offers literally dozens of trails, from mild to blow-your-head-off wild, almost all offer spectacular scenery and views that would make Ansel Adams wet himself. No matter what level of ’wheeling skill you possess, you’ll be able to find something in Moab that will be a challenge. For more information on next year’s event, contact Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc., Dept. 4WOR, P.O. Box 1471, Moab, UT 84532.

Here’s a peek at what’s going on and where.
