What Nate Archer's M561 Gama Goat lacks in looks, it makes up for in mobility-so you know this ugly truck must have some serious off-road capability. Nate had just bought the '70 military 111/44-ton Gama Goat built by Consolidated Diesel Electric Corporation (CONDEC) for $6,000 to turn it into his New Hampshire mud mobile when we spotted him at our 4-Wheel Jamboree in Vermont last summer. And when you look at the spec box on these things you can see why: a 70:1 crawl ratio, six-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, an articulated trailer, and 38-inch-tall tires. We love our 4x4s but we're suckers for 6x6s too. When we asked Nate to describe his vehicle he told us: "A lot of people thinks it's ugly, but almost all of them think it's cool." We couldn't agree more.
