1995 Chevrolet S-10 - Texas-Sized S-10

A 383, 44s, And More

If you've ever spent any time on the road in the Lone Star State, then you know that big customized trucks are more than just a passing fad to Texans. Three quarter- and 1-ton longbed four-doors with custom bumpers, off-road lights, brushguards, and of course four-wheel drive are the standard. All this with a splash of some classic cowboy pinstripes from passing brush, Copenhagen, or a stubborn Longhorn makes things clear that there are a lot of ranchers and oil riggers in the big state.

Rob Castleberry, a fireman from The Woodlands, Texas, was in need of a truck. And while a '95 S-10 might not be the biggest of trucks from the factory, lots of customization, cutting, bending, and welding has made this mini-truck into a monster any Texas truck fan would be proud to have in his or her driveway. The truck's current stage got started when Rob decided his old FJ-40 trail rig was in need of a major reworking.

While in the planning stages for the Toyota's rebuild, Rob ran across a lowered two-wheel-drive blue '95 S-10 that was for sale for almost nothing. Three months later, with a combination of new parts and some borrowed from the FJ-40, Rob hit the trails at Avalanche Ranch near Ignacio, Colorado, for the Bow Tie's maiden trail voyage. The truck sports a rappy 383, deuce-and-a-half axles, 44-inch Swampers, and some trick coil suspension. Check out the action on the trails.
