The Unimog's portal axles are extremely stout, largely in part because they transfer the workload through internal gear reduction. As the driveshaft spins, it rotates the 3.14 ratio ring-and-pinion, which sends power to the 2.07 gears in the portal boxes, thus creating an end ratio of 6.52.
