When Jake Hallenbeck of Reno, Nevada, got tired of wheeling his old Samurai, he decided to build a tube buggy. He found that the Samurai body was getting destroyed, and with a buggy he could build a rig around the drivetrain he wanted and make body panels that could easily be replaced. So in about two months Jake and some friends built an awesome all-around trail machine that is comfortable, uses all junkyard parts, and is fun to drive on almost any terrain. Plus, unlike many of the tiny competition rigs we see, Jake's hot rod has plenty of room for a cooler, tools, or a tent. Jake has had such a good response that he is thinking about making more tube chassis in his Canyon Krawlers shop and hopes to show folks that tube buggies aren't just for competition and can be as cheap and fun as building and beating up their old trail rig.
