It seems like yesterday when we touted our 20th birthday, but a lot has gone on in the last five years. You can check out our blowout for the big two-oh in our Mar. '98 issue, or look at some of the other stuff we found for this extravaganza. Looking back at the past is sometimes considered lame, especially when we read some of the predictions we made, but it's downright amazing how some of them came true, while others were so wonderfully far off. Even checking out the advertisements, not to mention the styles of the time, makes us wonder, "What were we thinking?" But it has been a fun ride, and we know now what mistakes not to make.
We decided that there is far too much great stuff to pack into one issue, so we'll have ongoing specials of both the best and the worst of 4-Wheel & Off Road. Next month we'll check out the advertisements from the past, and take a look at where those companies are today.
In this issue we'll take a look at the most recent years of Freaky 4x4s, as we call 'em, and the weirdness that goes along with that very title. No, we're not poking fun at the rigs or those who built them, just ourselves and what we considered mainstream four-wheeling. Read and enjoy this blast from the past.
