The first thing we did was to tick it in our aquarium for about an hour. the stylus 770sW is shockproof and waterproof, and we wanted to make sure of it. As you can see by the camera's monitor, it functioned fine underwater. The 21.2-inch hypercrystal lCD screen is really nice, but we feel that Olympus should have made some type of bezel around it or inset the screen so it would be more protected. We can envision this screen getting scratched easily if it were slid along a garage floor. The first thing we did was to tick it in our aquarium for about an hour. the stylus 770sW It's not often that we review a camera. After all, we're not shutterbug magazine. But thanks to our jobs, we've gained some pretty good insight as to which ameras will hold up inextreme conditions. Our cameras see more dirt and abuse than some guys' hiking boots, and if they're not sealed and built for rugged use, they find their way into the trash pretty quickly. When the folks at Olympus called to tell us about their new rugged-duty stylus 770sW, we almost laughed in their ear. Did they know what we did for a living? We humored them, and waited for their new shock + waterproof (sW) camera to arrive. "sure, send it to us. We'll put it to the test for you," we told them. Fast-forwarding to the inception of this story, the Olympus 770sW is still with us today, and in fact it now goes everywhere with us in a backpack, a glovebox, or back pocket. We've taken it swimming, thrown it in the mud, dropped it in an aquarium for an hour, stood on it, dropped it out of a truck, and buried it in the sand. After a little washing off, the camera is still working well. As far as durability goes, this is the most hard-core camera in our collection. We had a friend stand on it, it's fallen out of a truck, we dropped it from 5 feet up, and we've buried it in mud and muck. the only problem we've found is that some dirt and grit can cause the lens door to jam. We simply washed the camera off with water and we've been able to get the lens door working. if you're looking for a new digital camera, we'd suggest getting one durable enough to endure the rigors of off- road use, like the stylus 770sW.As far as durability goes, this is the most hard-core camera in our collection.
