The closer we get to installing the final few products on the Scratch-Built Scrambler, the more we can feel the wind blowing over the bikini top and smell the tire rubber burning while we push the Jeep through our favorite rock garden.

We placed Currie's Antirock sway bar systems in both the front and rear of the Scrambler. The systems come in different sizes, lengths, and configurations, and for some vehicles they are direct factory replacements. The front sway bar we used for the Scrambler is 32 inches long and the rear 45 inches. We also used steel Antirock arms (20 inches in front, 18 in the rear) rather than aluminum arms just in case we had to make any bends on them for clearance.

We can't tell you exactly how many years we have been wrenching, welding, and cutting, but a child would have gone from birth to Little League in that time. A few shops have helped with the build and done a phenomenal job at helping piece this rig together, and we greatly appreciate the help.

We've jumped over a couple of hurdles in the build that have gotten us much closer to driving it out of the shop, namely the MagnaFlow exhaust system and Currie Enterprises' front and rear Antirock sway bar systems. We enlisted the help of the guys at Overkill Engineering again because the sway bars on the Jeep are a custom installation and Overkill does fabrication work. Both the sway bars and the exhaust system will give the Jeep the better on- and off-highway performance we'll really appreciate once it's out of the shop.

The front sway bar tube was welded on mounts to the upper part of the frame in front of the grille. Mounting the bar in this location was an easy way to keep the Antirock out of the way of the bumper and steering box and was easier than going through the front of the frame's crossmember.

The rear Antirock also required tube mounts so that it would clear the exhaust system. The 45-inch sway bar tube was wide enough to clear the outside of the framerail, and the entire assembly will be able to articulate without hitting the springs, shocks, or outer framerail. The sway bars are torsion style and made from 4340 alloy steel. This is tough stuff, and the bars should last a considerable time even under the harshest off-road conditions.

When you're installing the Antirocks, it's a good idea to test-fit the system to make sure the arms clear everything before you welding anything. The steel arms can be bent in a brake or carefully by hand. We like the Antirock sway bar systems because they are hassle-free, with no disconnects to mess with, and give rigs a manageable performance ride on- and off-road. The systems help control the suspension on tough trails and control body roll and sway on the highway.

The Antirock link rods are threaded and can be cut to length, making them fully adjustable. The steering arms have five mounting holes for the links, which will change the rate of the sway bar for performance and handling fine tuning.

We were lucky enough to get the Scrambler in MagnaFlow's test and design center to have a custom 2 1/2-inch stainless steel exhaust installed on the Jeep. The system also included a 100 percent stainless steel straight-through muffler. The entire system was TIG-welded, and the cat-back portion of it was mandrel-bent.

We had the guys at MagnaFlow install the exhaust pipe behind the catalytic converter as high as they could to keep it away from the suspension and out of harm's way. Custom work at MagnaFlow isn't available to everyone; however, exhaust systems for a number of 4x4 models are all 100-percent stainless steel and mandrel-bent and offer the same performance levels.
