Since this truck had spent most of its life in the southeast, we treated it to a thorough bath of PB Blaster to try and break up the years of rust that had virtually welded the bolts in place. When dealing with rusty bolts, it's best to plan ahead and spray all the offending hardware with some penetrating oil a few days prior to the work.

2001 Toyota Tacoma Trd Extended Cab Lift Toyota Pro Lifting Cut Factory Crossmember
The most time-intensive portion of the lift is the complete disassembly of the front end. This is necessary to cut out the factory crossmember that supports the front differential. Be careful to cut only what the instructions say, as you will need to retain a good chunk of the passenger-side portion of the crossmember to attach the new steering bracket.

Lowering the differential will keep the CV axles and steering from operating at extreme angles, which will allow your independent front-end components to survive longer. We suggest bolting the drop-down brackets in first to perform a quick test fit. This will keep you from guessing while your buddies are killing themselves trying to hold up your new crossmember and differential assembly.

With the Tacoma's rack-and-pinion steering bolted to the back of the crossmember, we used the provided Pro Comp hoses to lengthen the fluid lines and replaced the factory steering shaft with a longer unit provided with the kit. This keeps the steering system on a more level plane, which will prevent bump-steer from becoming a problem.

Supporting our '01 V-6 and creating 4 inches of lift is a new strut and spacer system that allows the truck to maintain the factory coil and knuckle. Benefiting from hundreds of R&D hours that Toyota puts into its products, the new lift offers the vehicle more height with little compromise from how the truck's factory springs were engineered to perform.

Be sure to torque the front-axle nut back to manufacturer's spec once the front end is reassembled, as the nut is integral to the axle and hub assembly. Once the front end is buttoned down, you can install the stainless brake lines that are tougher and deflect debris better than the softer stock lines.

A block is used with new U-bolts to net the Tacoma a little over 3 inches of rear lift and maintain the factory rear leaves to preserve the factory ride quality. To help improve damping in the rear, MX-6 adjustable shocks were used to dial in our Taco for whatever terrain we encounter.
