Around the middle of summer for the past eleven years a group of partly crazy off-road enthusiasts gets together and spends a week wheeling some of the greatest terrain this country has to offer. This trip is called the Ultimate Adventure and it is time for the 2011 installment!

Before the first ‘Driver’s Meeting!’ of the year is called the entire crew must travel hundreds and even thousands of miles to the starting point, which is kept a secret even from the staff until just weeks before the trip is set to begin. This year participants drove from all corners of the country to meet here in… bet you though I was gonna slip didn’t you. Anyway this year Kevin McNulty and I (Online Editor Jason Gonderman) saddled up our old horse, the Black Sheep, a 2009 Dodge Ram, and headed east from our World Headquarters in Los Angeles. Over the course of the next three days we meet up with Art Director Alan Huber and Editor-In-Chief Rick Pewe, Technical Editor Fred Williams, returning reader Matt Kime, and Old Cronies Tom Boyd, Chris Durham, and Fred Perry.

We have all arrived safely at the starting point now and working on getting everyone checked in, tech inspected, and geared up for our first day on the trails. We’ll bring you all the action from Day 1 of Ultimate Adventure tomorrow but for now leave you with some sights from the road here. Any idea where we’re at this year?
